The increased use of semiconductors in the automotive industry
continues to grow at a rapid pace. Efforts to improve safety, enhance
emissions, and deploy intelligent drive-by-wire systems, as well
as customer demands for advanced entertainment, passenger
comfort, and information, suggest that many functions in tomorrow’s
vehicles will be controlled by electrical systems. Reliability of these
components and systems is critical to the safety and satisfaction of
customers, as well as to the bottom line of the manufacturers. SAE
Standard, J1879 Robustness Validation of Semiconductor Devices in
Automotive Applications, was recently revised in an effort to help meet
the ever more stringent quality standards of today’s global automotive
marketplace. The rationale of Robustness Validation is not to create
new methods, but rather to integrate the existing robust design
methods (e.g., test-to-fail in lieu of test-to-pass) into the automotive
electronics design and development process. With successful
completion of Robustness Validation, the producer and consumer will
realize the objectives of improved quality, cost and timing. This seminar
is designed to make a complex process understandable, useable and
functional from a practical standpoint and to provide the tools to help
your company overcome today’s daunting quality challenges.
Attendees will receive a copy of SAE J1879 Robustness Validation of
Semiconductor Devices in Automotive Applications.
Learning Objectives
By attending this seminar, you will be able to:
Describe the process of robustness validation qualification
including the creation of a mission profile, technology and product
development and risk evaluation
Create a comprehensive qualification plan and perform stress tests
along with the attendant robustness assessment
Close the continuous product improvement feedback loop by using
information gained through the robustness validation process to
make improvements and create a monitoring plan for the production
part
Apply the principles detailed in the new Robustness Validation
practice
